The dealer’s partner makes the most calls good, because when they order up the dealer is guaranteed to add the turned card to the team. The two defenders’ seats, eldest hand and the dealer’s right, are the weakest places to call from.

02The stuck dealer

Under stick the dealer, a dealer who sees all seven other bids pass must name trump. Those forced calls make 76% of the time and are euchred 24%, across 338,063 stuck hands.

03Calling next

“Next” is the suit of the same colour as the card that was turned down. The old advice says the player left of the dealer should call next in the second round, because the dealer passing on the turned card hints the dealing team is short in that colour. Here is how second-round calls actually fare.

From eldest hand, next makes 87.0% against 85.6% for the other colour: the old advice holds, by a small margin. From the other seats, crossing makes slightly more often.
